BARBARA GAYLE BOMAN GOODSITE
Barbara Gayle Boman Goodsite, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, February 12, 2017, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
The viewing is Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home, 200 E. Patton Ave., Alvarado, Texas. Funeral Services are Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Spears, Alvarado, Texas.
Barbara was born Nov. 11, 1948, in Norman, Oklahoma. She grew up in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, where she graduated from high school in 1967. Barbara’s ambition led her to start college in Chickasha, Oklahoma, as a single mom. After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, she and daughter, Michelle, moved to Edmond, Oklahoma. Barbara’s first Masters was from the University of Central Oklahoma. After moving to Texas, she continued her studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she obtained her Masters in Educational Leadership. On July 6, 1990, Barbara married Russell Goodsite.
Barbara’s love for teaching will live on well beyond her years through the many lives she touched during her career. She served her students and colleagues well. Barbara was also known for her love to cook and bake for others. She was a true servant to everyone who knew her.
Through her trailblazing battle with glioblastoma, she was lovingly cared for daily by her husband of 26 years, Russell, and her sister, Nancy Kuhl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Fannie Mae Boman; and niece, Carrie Marie Boman.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Goodsite; children, Michelle Roberts Strambler and husband, Terry, Brian Goodsite and wife, Laura, Bobby Goodsite and wife, Brandy, and Billie Hoekstra and husband, Dave. Her pride and joys were her grandchildren; Jaison, Gabby, Payton, and Morgan Strambler, Brandon and Whitney Goodsite, and Chandler and Alexa Hoekstra, siblings, Dale Boman and wife, Linda, Nancy Boman Kuhl, and Mary Boman Smith and husband, Ned; and many nieces and nephews who Barbara was very proud of as well.
