Centennial gets in last run before district meet
The Centennial girls cross country team finished the regular season with another win and the boys finished third at Granbury’s Race of the Loot last Friday.
The Lady Spartans scored 32 points to win the title. Richland finished second with 39 points and White Settlement Brewer was third (114 points). The Spartans placed third with 105 points. Azle took first place with 88 points and Richland finished second (91 points).
The Lady Spartans dominated the competition with four runners finishing in the Top 10.
Leading the charge was freshman Harli Woolsey who finished second in a time of 19 minutes, 9.67 seconds. Finishing third was junior Sarah Trammel in a time of 19:30.16. Sophomore Ashley Campbell placed fifth in a time of 20:07.44 and junior Abigail McCandless was seventh in a time of 20:08.80. Senior
Rainey Southall was the Lady Spartans’ fifth runner to finish. She placed 18th in a time of 21:24.94.
Senior Kayla Whitmire was 19th in a time of 21:27.02 and junior Serena Bersuch finished 34th in a time of 22:25.80.
In the boys competition, sophomore Nick Newby paced the Spartans, finishing fifth in a time of 17:28.75. Sophomores Trevor Pennington and Andy Shue placed 16th and 26th respectively. Pennington finished in a time of 18:06.98 and Shue crossed in a time of 18:13.85. Junior Grant Brown placed 31st in a time of 18:25.15 and senior Darien Burley was 36th in a time of 18:34.12.
Also running for Centennial were junior Derek Larabell (41st, 18:44.08) and freshman Christian Bersuch (43rd, 18:46.17).
Both Centennial teams are looking forward to the District 9-5A meet Friday morning at Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex.
